Introduction#
Everyone desires success and even wants to find a shortcut to success. In fact, as long as we master the correct methods and are willing to put in the effort, each of us can get closer to success. The book "The 1% Rule" presents readers with a new rule for success - the "1% Rule". "The difference between excellence and greatness is only 1%. By taking action to improve by 1%, you can get closer to success." As long as we can change our old ways of behaving and accept new perspectives, just like the character Ken in the book. The "1% Rule" has greatly benefited him and changed his life. Through Ken's experience, the author conveys a positive and optimistic attitude towards life to the readers: not everyone can become a great figure, but everyone can become a better version of themselves than yesterday. The rules presented in the book are direct, practical, and closely related to real-life situations, allowing everyone to find their own position in the book.
Getting Started#
This book is written by American author Tom Connellan and is divided into 7 chapters, which is worth reading for everyone.
At the beginning, the author uses a reverse narrative technique to bring the protagonist Ken, who has achieved success, back to four months ago when he was still an "ordinary" employee. By chance, he met their coach Jim while going to watch his children's soccer game. Seeing the changes in Jim's coaching and the children shocked him, and it was this shock that changed his life and became a turning point in his life.
The so-called 1% rule is to divide the big chunks of life into small pieces and focus on making efforts in one detail. The article also gives examples of several athletes, which may be easier for everyone to understand: in the men's 100m butterfly event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the difference between first place and fourth place was only 0.15 seconds; in the women's 100m hurdles event, the difference between first place and seventh place was only 0.18 seconds. Therefore, the difference between excellence and greatness is sometimes only 1%.
That's what the 1% rule is all about. We can all improve by 1% in hundreds of things. The only way to go further is to become a better version of ourselves than yesterday.
I give you these words from the protagonist Ken, and also to myself:
- The difference between excellence and greatness = 1%;
- You can't be 100% better than others, but you can be 1% better than others in hundreds of things;
- You may not win every competition, but you can have a winner's mindset and try to do better than yesterday;
- Not everyone will become a great person, but everyone can become a better version of themselves;
- Becoming faster, higher, and stronger does not mean being the fastest, highest, or strongest.
